COME, SIT WITH
ME......
Come, sit with me, and talk awhile,
Of memories you can't deny
Life's journey long, hope's final miles,
Before grim reaper says, "Oh, hi!"
Of lies that hid behind your smiles,
Of songs I sang to an empty room
You wanted too much from me, too soon
Come, sit with me, and talk awhile
Of blushes in the heat of night
Of unspoken words that fled in fright
My empty begging bowl of love lies smashed,
The tears it held have long since dried
But still all day I weep inside,
And look up at an impotent sky
Where blind birds of trust and loyalty fly
The night stars too, wink cynically,
And bow me down on bended knee
Awhile I moan and writhe, laid low
Asking why your sick and tired soul,
blames me for all its misery
Come, sit with me, and talk awhile,
With my head resting on your thigh
Beneath the curtain of your hair,
I'll look up at your face and stare
Pray reach out then, onto my chest,
And still this broken heart to rest
With final kiss on cooling brow
Send this soul speeding through
The smoky evening air......
